Since 1998, Contrix has operated the unglamorous middle of the print magazine subscription business — the paid-search campaigns, the checkout pages, the customer-service queues, the billing runs, the renewal cycles. The parts that don't make for a good editorial brief but make the difference between a subscription business that works and one that doesn't.

We work exclusively in print. Nearly three decades in, we operate Magazine-Agent.com, manage Total Search partnerships for a small roster of the best-known publishers in America, and maintain some of the most battle-tested subscription infrastructure in the industry.

How we operate

Four principles that shape everything we build.

    Magazines are impulse purchases.

    A reader decides to subscribe in a single moment — a cover on a newsstand, an ad in the right context, a remembered title from years ago. We built every flow Contrix operates around that moment, not around the ecommerce conventions designed for different behavior.

    One form. No account. No cart.

    We reversed the traditional ecommerce order flow to protect the impulse: a single validated form captures the subscriber's intent without asking them to register, remember a password, or navigate a cart. The platform is deliberately simpler than it looks — because simpler converts.

  3. 03

    Short roster. Deep attention.

    Contrix operates a small number of publisher relationships, most of them multi-year. The depth is the point: the economics and the craft both favor fewer partners, treated carefully, over a portfolio too large to truly operate.

    When we represent your brand, you have the final word.

    On publisher-branded pages, the publisher holds editorial review rights. Contrix operates the infrastructure and the acquisition; you approve the creative. Our name appears when you want it to, and not before.

A short timeline

Nearly three decades, four chapters.

  1. 1998
    Contrix founded.
    As an interactive marketing agency focused on the publishing industry.
  2. 1999
    Magazine-Agent.com launches.
    Our first consumer subscription property — and the foundation for everything that followed.
  3. 2000s
    Infrastructure built.
    CircStream and ClientSites developed in-house to power our own operations at scale.
  4. 2010s–today
    Total Search formalized.
    The paid-search partnership model productized and offered to select print publishers.
